Our Cars

My Car By Fred

In a recent discussion, we at the Herts Branch decided to introduce a regular feature onto the website “Me and My Car”, which would tell others something about our membership and the car or cars that they own. As Chairman of the Branch, I was asked to start the ball rolling, so here goes….

I thought I would add my car to this feature but I do feel a bit of a fraud; as my car owes its continuing existence to my late father in-law Eric Porter who totally restored the car.

Quite a few of our members will remember Eric as he took an active part in the club for many years as well as being on the committee

I bought my Morris Minor Traveller in March 2005. I had some work done on the car, it had an unleaded fuel device fitted, which is a catalyst that contains lead, the fuel passes through it and supposedly adds lead, I am not convinced. I fitted a new battery and new ignition system for reliability and I then had rear seatbelts fitted for the dog harness, a CD player and reconditioned wheels, the original wheels were a sort of mustard colour and looked awful.

My smoke grey Traveller Lovejoy came about by accident, well that's my story and I am sticking to it. I first saw the Traveller in May 2006 while going to look at the car for someone else who as soon as they saw it said they didn't like the colour and that was that as they thought it was going to be a grey car and not pale blue but I quite liked the look of it and was quite impressed with the car which had a few modern upgrades and it seemed to drive ok without to many faults.

My car is a 1970 Morris Traveller which I acquired in 1970 having paid the princely sum of £525 at which time it had covered 20,000 miles. The traveller was used as my business and family car up until 1980 by which time it had covered 100,000 miles. At this time I have to admit it was a complete wreck
