My Car By Tony
I have been showing and breeding Golden Retriever dogs for some thirty years, going to shows all over the country from Exeter to Ayr with some success. Dogs are a 24-7 commitment and I wanted a hobby which I could do as and when I wanted.
Some 18 months ago we moved house down sized etc. So this was an ideal time to start a new hobby. Many years ago I was an apprentice electrician and worked with a chap who had a traveller and used it for work so I got to ride in it to and from jobs. Later I brought a 65 two door saloon it was a great little car but you move on and at that age you want bigger and better? Last September we went to a show in Bishops Stortford and I got talking to a chap with a traveller & I was hooked. I did the usual thing (Wrong) I bid for a 1960 traveller on E-Bay got it for £370 plus transport home, it was in poor condition to say the least. I then joined the Morris Minors Owners Club and found out about the Herts Branch and came over and joined. I had spoken to Kevin on the phone about the car as it did not have a chassis plate or V5 he felt it could be a bit of a problem to get it registered, so at one of the club meetings I spoke to Fred (the welder) and he came over and had a look at it. He gave me some good advice as I was a novice, which was to break it and learn how things come apart etc. And buy one with an MOT, so this is what I did.
The car I have now is a 1968 Trafalgar Blue Traveller brought from a retired vicar (honestly I am not making it up) in Suffolk, it does need some work doing to it but it has 12 months MOT we can use it at the same time . I have to date changed a lot of chrome parts, replaced the rear timber doors, (using the doors from my old one). I am also going to strip the side timbers etc. Plus the paintwork and that is before I do any of the inside and so and so on.
Regards
